More than 550,000 boaters across the United States have discovered the benefits of being a member of BoatUS. It was Richard Schwartz who founded the Association and created the acronym BoatU.S. – Boat Owners Association of The United States – in 1966.
BoatU.S. was created as an association to support boaters and its focus is, and always will be, boaters services, safety, and advocacy for boater’s rights. In the past 50 plus years BoatU.S. has expanded its services to include low-cost boat insurance, towing services, discount partnerships as well as its mission to promote safe, clean, and responsible boating through the BoatU.S. Foundation.
Often, our TowBoatU.S. Captains are questioned about the relationship between TowBoatU.S. and BoatU.S. We explain that the two names represent the same company. BoatUS is the insurance, discount, and advocacy side of the company and TowBoatU.S. is the name under which BoatU.S. provides tow service.
BoatU.S. saw a need in the early 1980’s when the Coast Guard, constrained by budget cuts, enacted regulations which prohibited Coast Guard personnel from towing vessels that were not in distress. As a result, commercial towing companies sprang to existence.
By 1992, BoatU.S. began to develop its network of independent towing providers and then introduced TowBoatU.S. Unlimited and Unlimited Gold Towing Memberships.
As a TowBoatU.S. provider we represent the fleet by branding our boats with the recognizable red and white TowBoatU.S. logo and follow strict customer service and safety standards.
